saturday is a special day.

[the beautiful seine. my backyard, no biggie.]

saturday, we slept in like no other.
seriously, after all the traveling and gogogo during our south-of-france vacay, i was dead tired and just wanted to sleep.
it was miss anna gee's 19th birthday, so we all met in front of the eiffel tower for a nice little pique-nique.
[annie, tiff, me, and kell-bell. also, ignore my awkward hand. i never know what to do with my dang hands. and my frizzy hair. i have yet to get a straightener out hurrr.]

i had an apple and water, so i didn't take a picture. just imagine a freakin' crummy apple though, because i couldn't find my favorite kind [FUJI ALL THE WAYY!].
while we were there, hailey mentioned that because it was some holiday, all the museums and big tourist-y places were free to get in. of course, me and tiff got all excited and decided that's what we were doing for the rest of the day. the rest of the clan went to h&m....okayyy....except sam and hailey. they're cool like us.

we went to l'arc de triumph first, and decided to climb all the way up [only heaven knows why, because they were spiral stairs and there was about 8217203 of them, which = a very nauseous, dizzy michelle.] it was way cool though to be able to see the whole city on all sides of us.
[suuuper windy. and are we sure this isn't notre dame instead, because michelle's lookin' a little fugly hunchback-ish.]

[at the tippity-top. right after i ralphed from going up all those swirly stairs. just kidding! kinda.]

after that, we decided to walk down the champs elysees, which while we were doing, michelle got a little hungry. okay, really hungry. i only had a dang apple, okay? so we decided to go down a random road and try and find a creperie. but instead, we just got lost. it ended up being happy though because we ran into the british ambassador's house that happened to only be only that day and was hardly letting anyone else in as we came, so we were super lucky. and the inside was absolutely beautiful! i've never been inside versailles, but hailey has and said that's basically what it looks like on the inside. everything was so dramatic and gold and red and amazing.
[this was us right before dinner with the british ambassador. he caught sight of me and absolutely fell in love. he immediately tried to kiss me, but i pushed him away because his wife was coming up, so instead we settled on dinner and decided to meet up later in the coat closet. just kidding. kinda. no, but really.]

we also discovered that it was pauline bonaparte's getaway house. as in when napoleon was buggin' the crap outta' her with all his napoleon-ness, she had a freakin' mansion to go to. i don't even have a closet to go to....other than the british ambassador's ;] ehh? ehhh? okay, i'm done.

after that, we walked out to place de la concorde and sat by the fountain [one of them, at least] for a bit.
[pretty normal looking fountain, right? i thought so. pretty drabby. except i do like the mermaids holding the fish with water coming out of their mouth. ]

then, we remembered notre dame, and decided to head down in that direction so we could go inside. once we got there, there was a huge beyond huge line outside of it, so that was a no-go. we did go to the backside of it though and there was this cute french band performing back there. me and sam fell in l-o-v-e. don't laugh now....
but their band name was "marshmellow". gonna be honest, a little bit of a turn-on. haha just kidding! kinda.
oh, and here's a picture of notre dame...whatever...if you're into that sort of thing.
[seriously though, how pretty is that? i'm really appreciating architecture more and more being out here. maybe that's because there's actual diversity in the buildings here. not like the literally cookie-cutter arizona buildings. okay, not a literal cookie-cutter guys.]

after that, we decided we wanted to head down to the pompidou, which is the museum of modern art, since it would be freeeeee! i had never seen it, but tiff and sam had talked it up enough that i was pretty psyched about it.
[me and tiffykins. the giant and the midget. jack and the beanstalk.]

[isn't this the coolest building eva? i agree.]

we go inside and spend like an hour in the bookstore, which is the coolest bookstore in the world. then, we go to get in, and it's not free. oh, but we can get in for free if we have our l'institut cathlique student cards. which i forgot at home. greeeaaaat. nah, it was fine, we were hungry anyways. typical.

tiff said she knew of a delicious pizza place down the road, and we all agreed to go. when we got there, our waiter was super snippy and wouldn't let us share two dishes between the four of us. what if we were anorexic, buddy? freakin' idiot. we ended up sharing a pizza, baked ravioli, and a salad.
[caesar salad. this baby was ordered at the last second, and was actually really refreshing to have whilst carbo-loading. simple, yet delicious. mmmm tomatoes.]

[this pizza was really good. thin, but chewy and crispy. just how i like it. and it had basil, tomatoes, and eggplant on it, which was actually really yummy. which is way it's basically gone. we all shared it though. i promise. not just me. just putting that out there.]

[baked ravioli bolgnaise. i was a little hesitant on this one because of the "bolgnaise"....i thought it'd be like an old grandma again...or chef boyardee, which is what it looks like. but the sauce was creamy and perfect for dipping bread in, and the ravioli was pretty good as well. pas mal!]

as we were finishing up, it started raining. we figured it'd finish by the time we left, but oh no, it picked up. we ended up having to run to the metro, and got completely soaked on the way there! poor sam was wearing sandals and might as well have been walking barefoot. it was pretty fun though. love me some paris rain :]

all in all, not a bad first day back in paris. oh! i forgot. as i was up late that night blogging in my room, all the sudden this reeeaaally loud american hip-hop music started blaring. like seriously, it was the loudest music i've ever heard in real life. and it sounded like it was coming from inside the apartment, so i was guessing that my host brother was home from vacation with his friends and was having a party. and i kinda really wanted to sneak and investigate get a drink of water, so i go to my door, and my handle broke. and by broke, i mean the dang thing would not let me out, no matter how much i jiggled and yanked at it. so i was stuck in my room the rest of the night. never did find out if the party was going on inside or not. dang.

  1. I think you are becoming a France snob when you think that the fountain was drabby. Its all incredible. And be proud of your height...I'd trade you in an instant. And I have to know if those were the croutons on the salad. The pizza looks amazing!!! Why am I not there?

  2. That fountain is the same one in the Devil Wears Prada! Maria says that the hot dog place isn't far from there...I'm assuming you know what that means? It means that if you wanted to eat a hot dog, you could get one there! Hahahaha miss my jokes yet?
